Marathon Petroleum Company is seeking an Electrical Reliability Engineer to support its Mandan and Dickinson Refineries located in North Dakota. This position will be based in Mandan, ND and the selected candidate will be required to travel to Dickinson, ND (100 miles) a minimum of once per week for support of each electrical program. A company vehicle is provided for travel between sites.

The Electrical Reliability Engineer s primary responsibility is to ensure that plans and processes are in place to appropriately maintain the plant s electrical equipment and systems throughout its lifecycle to reduce safety, environmental and economic risk, while maintaining compliance with all applicable codes and standards. The engineer will also be responsible for providing technical support on high priority electrical issues. The applicant should be strong in the area of teamwork as interfacing with all departments will be necessary to meet job responsibilities.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, team-oriented individual who has a background in electrical engineering in industrial systems, preferably in a refining/petrochemical environment. The candidate should have a good understanding of industrial electrical applications up to and including 15kV class. Familiarity in the topics of electrical safety, hazardous area classification, power distribution and protection, motors and motor controls, electrical studies and industry standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, NEMA, API, etc.). The Reliability Electrical Engineer will report to the Reliability Supervisor.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical/troubleshooting assistance in resolving electrical design, operation and maintenance problems. Have the competency to recognize when other resources are required and be able to get the appropriate parties engaged.
  • Be the champion of electrical safety for the sites.
  • Manage the refinery s electrical equipment preventative and predictive maintenance program. This includes establishing and maintaining equipment asset strategies for electrical infrastructure, such as monitoring plans, PM plans, PdM activities, etc.
  • Provide technical expertise and lead investigations to solve recurring electrical equipment failures, reliability threats, and/or performance issues.
  • Initiate and participate in management of change (MOC) reviews and incident investigations.
  • Develop projects, and concepts for reliability improvement, prepare reports that monitor and track reliability indicators, provide technical resources and training to support our reliability programs.
  • Support refinery turnarounds, including scope development, planning, reviews, material acquisition and execution of electrical work scopes. Develop and review turnaround worklists for inclusion of compliance-based testing requirements, needed maintenance activities & repairs, recommended upgrades & replacements, etc. of critical electrical assets.
  • Support factory acceptance testing & site commissioning of electrical projects or major equipment, including during turnarounds.
  • Maintain and manage the plant s electrical model utilizing ETAP software, including management of the plant s electrical equipment arc flash labeling program.
  • Perform and/or review electrical system studies with emphasis on arc-flash analysis, protection and coordination, motor starting and short circuit studies.
  • Communicate with personnel from different disciplines and grade levels, along with outside resources to obtain needed information or resolve issues.
  • Review design drawings and construction packages for electrical related projects. Participate in technical reviews of vendor equipment drawings.
  • Accountable for management and maintenance of electrical critical equipment list database. Maintain electrical equipment bad actor list.
  • Develop and maintain final relay set points and logic configuration settings for site transmission, substation, and distribution systems.
  • Provide leadership and decision-making skills during turnarounds and unplanned equipment outages regarding repair solutions.
  • Support refinery in high impact unplanned electrical issues as required.
  • Revalidate/write electrical testing procedures, maintenance procedures, QA/QC checklists, etc. to ensure reliability excellence via NETA requirements.

Minimum (Required)
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s Degree (or higher) in a relevant Engineering discipline from an accredited institution required.
  • Minimum 4 years of post-degree relevant experience.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to fulfill responsibilities of this position. Anticipated travel is 20% of full-time basis. Overnight stays are not typical.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Preferred
Qualifications:

  • Experience performing electrical power system studies utilizing ETAP modeling.
  • Familiarity with electrical maintenance and troubleshooting practices for industrial electrical applications.
  • Experience with specification, application and maintenance up to 15kV class electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution and substation design a plus.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
